Contrary to expectations Antarctica is a continent of extraordinary colours. Long hours of daylight to cruise the many islands and bays, either on zodiacs or kayaks, offer a wonderful opportunity to experience the majesty of landscape and wildlife. The food chain begins with krill, (Norwegian for small fish), eaten by squid, penguins, sea birds, seals and whales who rely on it for survival. On this trip we saw both minky and humpbacks diving into huge chains of krill to feed. We also saw pods of orcas (killer whales) with their striking black and white markings.  Of the seals, the predatory leopard seal was the most exciting. Most abundant of the wildlife were the penguin colonies.
